Takahe to Akaroa Relay

Masters Women´s Team continues its Winning Way

The Port Hills Masters Women´s team won their division of the 69th Takahe to Akaroa Relay on Saturday 20th September to continue their string of 2008 wins in Athletics Canterbury relay events. With wins in the Lionel Fox, Anglican Block, Round the Gorges and now the Takahe to Akaroa, Port Hills has established themselves as the leading Masters Women´s team in Christchurch.

Maree Greig was in a hard fought 3rd place at the end of lap 1 but a pulled calf muscle for Lisa Buckler in lap 2 meant Bernie Jago had to finish that lap with a 5 minute penalty before starting her own lap 3 just over 5 minutes behind Sumner and in 4th place. Fastest MW times by Bernie and Pauline Poore on laps 3 & 4 had Port Hills back in front at the halfway point and they edged further away from second placed Olympic over the second half. Second fastest MW by Fiona Gilroy on lap 5, a great 37:31 up the hill on lap 6 by Robyn Daly, 2nd fastest MW by Loris Reed on lap 7 and a strong finish from Mary Hart saw Port Hills home to win by 6 minutes and 34 seconds from Olympic despite the 5 minute penalty.

Way to go ladies!
