CLUB NIGHTS - Monday - 5.30-7.15pm

Please see the Calendar to check the venue for club night as this is at Hansen Park on the first Monday of every month and Hillmorton every other Monday. At Club Nights athletes compete in their grades and have the opportunity to compete in 3 or 4 events - a mix of track and field - each night. The programme is set to allow athletes to compete in the full range of events over a 2/3 week period. We encourage athletes to try all events and to compete against others in their age group as well as achieve improved personal performances.

COMPETITION AGE

An athlete's official age is his or her age as of 31 Dec, 2011. For example, if a child is 9 at the beginning of the season but turns 10 in December, then he or she competes as a 10 year old the entire season (even before turning 10). If another child is 9 but turns 10 in January, he or she competes as a 9 year old the entire season (even after turning 10). These official ages apply to club nights, Saturday Interclub competition, and the Colgate Games. At Saturday Interclub and the Colgate Games, children compete only against others in the same age group (the exception being that children under 7 compete as a 7 year old). However, on club nights, we often combine age groups (e.g. "under 8", "8 & 9 year olds" or "12 and older") based on the number of children attending.

Interclub competitions commence 15 October at Burnside High School and continue until the Canterbury Children's Championships early March 2011. Timaru is used for some interclub competitions and Rawhiti domain will also be used as the interclub venue once it has been completed in terms of the setup and grounds. There is a break in competition over the Christmas period until mid-January. These competitions are conducted by Canterbury Children's Athletic Association Inc. Athletes must be registered with the Children's Association to compete and club uniform is required. A draft programme has been published by Canterbury Childrens Athetic Association and can be downloaded here.
